The Wide Gape hook is based on the Classic Maruta Kinryu model. The point is slightly curved inwards, which means that this hook will not only prick quickly but also provide a solid hold during the retrieve. This in combination with an ultra sharp point.
The eye of the hook is angled 15 degrees inwards, which makes it easy to rotate the hook towards the lower lip. This line aligner effect can be further enhanced by using a piece of shrink tube over the eye of the hook.
The Wide Gape is a classic model used by many top anglers today. This hook has many big fish to its name. Even England’s largest carp, called Two Tone, has been caught on this hook.
