The origins of the blowback rig go back to the days when English carp anglers did their best to fool carp from high watered waters.
One theory about this rig is that thanks to a ‘micro-rig ring’ the hookbait has the ability to be spit back along the hookstem, without the hook leaving the carp’s mouth.
Some well-known English carp anglers reject this reasoning and believe that the rig is so effective because the retracting rig ring gives optimum freedom for the hook tip to poke and stay poked (fewer dislodges) and that the bend in which the rig ring is located makes the tip of the hook heavy, making it more likely to tip and poke.
