Float rods

Float rods

Fishing with a float rod is perhaps one of the most fun and exciting ways to fish for carp. When you see the bubbles around your float, you know you're in for a treat. A nice jolt from the floater completes the picture and before you know it, after a hard pull, there's a nice carp on your unhooking mat. It doesn't get any more exciting than that! Float or pen rods are also often used for fishing on the surface with bread crust or with dog biscuits as bait. This is another fishing discipline that is often spectacular.

Float rods carp

A pen fishing rod is really meant for fishing carp. The rods are often quite long, an average rod is 3.90 metres long. This is good, because then you don't only have to throw your tackle, but because of the length of the rod you can sometimes sink your bait right in front of a carp. The test curve of a good rod is usually around 1.5lb. This is a lot lighter than the rods you normally use to fish for carp, but it is more than enough to handle even the biggest carp. With a pencil rod you don't have to cast long distances with a heavy lead.

Fishing rod set

A pencil rod is combined with a light 4000 size reel. You do not need a freerunner for this type of fishing. However, it is very important that the drag of the reel works as well as possible, because carp are strong and they often fight explosively. Combine the reel with a nylon line of approximately 0.26 or 0.28mm. Of course, you can use a thinner nylon or fluorocarbon line for your hooklink. If you do not know exactly what you need to start fishing with the pen, you can choose a pen rod set. These sets are well-matched and so you can be sure that you are standing on the bank with the right set of rods.
