Feeder fishing has been a hugely popular way of fishing for coarse fish and small carp for many years. This is because it is an easy, fun and above all very successful technique. The big secret of feeder fishing is to use a feeder to put a little bit of food on the spot at a time. By doing so you lure the targeted fish to your spot and you can then easily catch them.

Feeder fishing assembly

When you go feeder fishing, it’s important to use the right tackle. An essential part of the feeder assembly is the feeder. In the feeder you put the bait, for example groundbait or small pellets, but also natural bait like maggots is a good choice. When the feeder is launched, the bait will slowly leave the basket, automatically creating a small feeding area. The feeder is often mounted on the main line, just above the leader. Feeders are available in different types, sizes and weights. The feeder also serves as a casting weight, so you don’t need to use a lead to cast far. The leader can be fitted with the same bait as the bait in the feeder. The hook bait will then be the same as the bait in the feeder and you will be feeding the same bait you are fishing with.

Feeder rod

For feeder fishing, it is advisable to use matching feeder gear. An important part of your feeder equipment is a feeder rod
feeder rod. For lake and canal fishing, a medium feeder rod with a medium casting weight will do. If you are going for feeder fishing on rivers or large canals, a feeder rod with a high casting weight may be a better choice.
